Why Erotica?

Since I started the journey to become an author, that is the question I'm asked most often; why erotica?
I never had an answer for them.
Truthfully, it's where my stories tend to go. I write adult stories for adults, and sex is a part of adult life. I didn't set out to become an erotica author, I just wanted to be a writer and share my stories with other people. I've been writing since I was a teenager, and as I got older my stories matured. I started thinking about sex and sexuality differently and wanted to explore it in my writing. I never set out to write a romance involving a three-way relationship, but when inspiration hits, it hits like a ton of bricks and the story tends to write itself. It's funny, but the idea for Summer Hideaway came to me while I was watching a movie, a single scene caught my attention and I wrote an entire book around my vision of that one simple moment.
When Anne Rice (under her pen name) published The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy (now there's a fourth book coming out, yay!) she revolutionized the erotica genre. She helped make it okay for women to want to read about sex and to explore their sexualities through literature. She later said she couldn't find the stories she wanted to read about in erotica, so she wrote them herself. I'll never revolutionize this genre, but I hope to contribute to it. I hope my book(s) (a girl can dream!) take you to a place of fantasy, one where you can let go of the crap that drags us down, and get lost in my characters and their lives, even if it's only for a little while.
Now I finally have an answer for them. Why erotica? Why not erotica.
